That balance will vary depending on what stage of home ownership you’re currently at.  Later in life, when you’re buying your “forever home” or looking at downsizing for retirement, you will want more focus on the lifestyle aspect of home ownership.  But when you’re buying your first home, the investment aspect carries much more importance than it will later in life.

It’s important to understand:  not all types of homes will increase in value at the same rate!  Some will increase very quickly, and some will move very slowly… or even backwards!  That’s right, even in this crazy market we’ve had in the last couple of years, you could still have bought poorly and LOST MONEY!  This is NOT how to build up equity for your future home!
